Brief

I was tasked with completing a complete brand identity for the 2038 Winter Olympics of a randomly assigned host city in the US. It will include all of the needed resources to send off to the potential client. After completion, I had to professionally pitch to a panel of designers to get feedback.

Philosophy

This project is intended to present the visual identity system
of Boise, Idaho as the host city of the 2038 Winter Olympic Games. Boise is the capital of Idaho that is an innovative community-driven hub that is striving for change and sustaining their natural resources. Through these visuals, I want to portray a welcoming city that promotes a collaborative community with a high quality of life through a unified and rooted design system.

Influences

How might we design an olympic experience for Boise that instills confidence in both players and competitiors while fostering a sense of community and collaboration? The city's natural resources were my main inspiration to answer this question.

Brand Story

Since Boise is known as ‘The City of Trees’, I decided to look to nature and called it the Ponderosa Frontier. The Ponderosa Pine is the most common tree in Idaho that has qualities that can relate Boise to being a strong, unified symbol. Frontier is representative of the slang locals use as front, which is used when you are leaving the city to connect with nature. What is the Olympics weren't just about where you finish, but about where you come from? The athletes all come from somewhere, carrying their histories with them, and are rooted in their past. We are all growing towards something greater which is what makes us all a part of the Olympics.
Before every victory...there is roots.

Touchpoints

Touchpoints are what bring your visual identity system to life. Within your contexts the design becomes a living system that can be iterated in many different ways. This section contains some possible contexts for future use of Boise’s winter olympic games. Click on the photos below for more details.

Takeaways

Through this project I learned not only how detailed a branding system is but how much power it can have when you properly design. Research was vital to the final product and feedback along the way is what transformed the identity. Also professionally pitching to other designers was a unique experience that only helped my process.
